Frequently Asked Questions:
Do I need to be a runner?
Absolutely not. It's a great way to get into the running community in a safe environment. People with all skill levels come. This is about you and bettering yourself, use this to help achieve your goals! That being said, we ask that you take responsibility and be sure it is safe for you to exercise prior to coming.
Do I need to be fast? & What if I can't run the whole thing?
Everyone starts together, but due to various backgrounds in running and training, you can run at your own pace. There are many people who attend and you are very likely to run/jog and take a rest break with someone of similar running ability. With the always changing weather in Sidney we encourage you to plan accordingly with clothing, hydration, etc and change your running plan if needed. On the 90 degree days if you need to turn back early because you don't feel well and didn't drink enough water, PLEASE take care of yourself!
Can I walk the whole thing? Or can I bike it?
Some people do walk the entire route, some have biked in the past-we don't discourage physical activity, and we understand not everyone has the ability to run.
That being said, it is a RUN club and we do promote running and rewarding the shirts to those who are part of the run club. Apart from that, we encourage you to have your friends and family meet up with you after the run to hang out and socialize.
How is this whole thing ran?
This is run purely on sponsor donations and volunteer work. The races are hosted by the Run Club to promote exercise in the form of running and walking in the community. We have an honors system here, so any discrepancies are on the person.
How do I become a sponsor?
Talk to Amanda, or email the run club at [email protected]
I'm new in the community, so..........?
Please come run with us!!! This is a perfect opportunity to meet people and network. Even if you have lived in Sidney for a while, there are many awesome people to have moved into the community, come meet them!
I'm really worried about trying this out alone, any advice?
At one time each person had to be a new member, learn the routes, people, and step outside of their comfort zone. Try to bring a friend, family member, neighbor, co-worker, etc to give you a crutch, but this is not necessary. If you come on your own, we will welcome you with open arms! Just let some one know you are new and we'll fill you in on everything you may need to know!
I want to get more involved, where do I start?
Just let us know you are interested! It takes volunteers to keep this going and the more people willing to put in a little extra, the better we can make this experience for everyone!!!! Bring any ideas you have to run club or email them and we'll see how we might be able to implement them.
